What You WANT to Learn

The first part of guitar lessons is providing students with what they want to know. This is obviously decided by the student and allows the student to determine what they would like to learn for a portion of their lesson. Some of the options that students usually choose to learn to include songs from their favorite artists, the main riff or lick from a song they are currently listening to, a style of music that interests them, a certain guitar technique, or an aspect of music theory that intrigues them. Most students choose to learn songs.

What You NEED To Learn

The second part of guitar lessons is providing students with what they need. We believe all students should know certain elements of music to become skilled, knowledgeable and, ultimately, creative musicians.  These elements would include basic chords, common rhythm guitar techniques, chord progressions, scales in the most commonly used major and minor keys and a practical hands-on theoretical understanding of how these chords and scales function together so as to help the student play the music they enjoy listening to and to create their own music.

Understand Music

Create Your Own Music,Play By Ear, Play Lead Guitar (In the Right Key, With the Right Scales) Though there are many other elements we believe to be important and are included in our guitar lessons, the above-mentioned knowledge and skills are the ones that we feel are indispensable for every student.

TWO Exciting Ways To Take Guitar Lessons- The Traditional Track and The Performance Track

Here at Naperville Music, our philosophy of teaching guitar lessons is two-fold: provide students with what they want to know and provide students with what they need to know.  Guitar lessons are structured a bit different than other instruments, and you have the option of two different learning tracks. Talking with one of our enrollment counselors will allow us to discuss your specific goals. We can also explain the differences between the two tracks in more detail. The traditional track and the performance tracks will cover all the 4 essentials mentioned above, but approach the material in a different manner.
